Canoe and Kayak Newfoundland and Labrador

Paddle among a pod of humpback whales while a blizzard of seabirds fills the sky and icebergs hang on the horizon. Explore sea-carved caves and zig-zag around sea stacks covered with broad winged, golden headed gannets. Slip into quiet bays where bald eagles soar over deserted houses.

Dash through the tight turns of a river in full flood. Cruise a tributary and meet a moose. Tack across a "pond" that's really a huge fjord hemmed in by 1000-foot-high cliffs that spawn waterfall rainbows.

You can do all this and more in the coastal and inland waters of Newfoundland and Labrador - the far east of the western world. Here in the northeast corner of North America, is a water wonderland for canoeists and kayakers. There are 10,500 miles of coastline featuring rugged headlands, deep bays - even sand dunes. Inland thousands of miles of rivers flow through a glacier-carved landscape dotted with innumerable lakes and ponds.

The best way to explore the island of Newfoundland's waterways is in the company of people who know where the whales feed and the birds nest, what reefs and sunkers to avoid, and where the icebergs run aground. These folks also know the lay of the land, and the stories, tales and music of the 580,000 people who live here. Throw in with one of our crews for the adventure of a lifetime.

North East Treks

Visit our world class seakayaking destination at historic Trinity, Trinity Bay off Route 230. Experience our dramatic coastline. Kayak with humpback, minke, fin whales; view seabird colonies or take our 3 day yacht/seakayak trip and explore isolated island chains - all inclusive. We offer professional guides and marine interpretation.

The community of Trinity has a unique history. It was discovered by the Portuguese navigator, Gaspar Corte-Real, who entered its harbour on Trinity Sunday in 1501. It has been harried by pirates and twice taken by the French (the last time in 1761). Many of the traditions of the people of Trinity today come from the West Country English who settled here in the 18th century and established it as one of the mercantile capitals of the fish trade in the new world.

Today there is little commercial fishery around Trinity. Instead it is one of the best places in the world to view humpback whales. These magnificent mammals feed in these waters in the summer and migrate to the tropics to mate and calve during the winter months.

Whether you chose a relaxing afternoon paddle or an overnight excursion, we look forward to introducing you to this beautiful place.
