Eimskip Newfoundland
Eimskip is the only direct container service between Newfoundland, Europe and the eastern seaboard of the United States. Through the Port of Argentia, Eimskip offers bi-weekly shipments from Halifax, Boston, New York, and Norfolk to destinations such as Hamburg, Helsinki, Copenhagen, and Rotterdam.
Marine Atlantic
Marine Atlantic operates a seasonal passenger/vehicle ferry service between North Sydney, Nova Scotia and Argentia, Newfoundland. The terminal in Argentia is connected to St. John's via a modern network of paved roads. The ferry accomodates 1,200 passengers, and consists of 4 arrivals/departures per week from mid-June to September.
Argentia Freezers and Terminals
Argentia Freezers and Terminals act as agents for Eimskip, and are responsible for that company's wharf handling and stevedoring. Argentia Freezers are also wholesalers of frozen fish products, importing from world-wide markets for companies such as Fishery Products International.
Municipal Recycling
Municipal Recycling collects raw material for recycling from across the province, shreds it at their location in Argentia, and prepares it for shipment to mills world-wide.
Newfoundland Steel
Newfoundland Steel is a major rebar fabricator for the Newfoundlan construction industry and the Hibernia Oil Development project. The company has been involved in rebar training partnerships with the Placentia campus of the Eastern Community College.
North Star Cement Ltd.
North Star Cement Ltd. operates two cement silos on the North Side of the Argentia base. This company imports cement from Spain for use province-wide, including major construction projects such as the Hibernia site at nearby Bull Arm.
Argentia Dragway
One of the airstrips on Argentia's North Side is operated as an automobile drag raceway from June to October.
Canadian Coast Guard
The Canadian Coast Guard's Argentia Traffic Centre monitors the shipping traffic in Placentia Bay, which includes vessels en route to the oil refinery at Come by Chance, the Marystown Shipyard, and the Port of Argentia.
Avalon Fitness Center
This center will operate a full range fitness program in the former base gymnasium. Watch for further informatioin regarding the Grand Opening in January, 1996.
LMB Enterprises
This company operates a home service operation, offering mobile asphalt recycling, a landscaping operation and birch firewood to domestic accounts.
The U.S. Navy
The U.S. Navy still maintains its presence at Argentia with an undersea surveillance facility.
