Today's Strategic Port Of Call

Argentia is located on the southeast portion of the island of Newfoundland, on the east side of Placentia Bay. The deep, ice-free harbour is three kilometres in length and has a wide turning basin.
This is the setting for today's strategic port of call.

The 4,047 hectare facility includes 1,457 hectares of developed property right on the harbour front. The naval base is incorporated into the town of Placentia, a progressive community of 7,000. St. John's, the provincial capital, with its international airport, is less than 90 minutes away via a modern network of paved roads.

The Port: Argentia's Asset

Argentia is one of the finest ports in eastern Canada. The public wharf is
518 metres in length.
The average draft is 8 - 11 metres, and ships as large as 300 metres can be accomodated without tug assistance. This exceptional facility was built and maintained by the U.S. Navy to the highest standards.

Access To Newfoundland...

And The World!

Argentia's location is ideal for transport between Newfoundland and
North American markets.
Other companies have recognized this fact. Marine Atlantic, for example, utilizes the docking facilities at Argentia for its passenger/vehicle ferry service from
North Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Argentia is also ideally located for global markets. The United States and Europe are the most affluent markets in the world, and Argentia is strategically located in relation to both. Shipping companies like Eimskip of Iceland are already using Argentia as a key centre for world-wide container forwarding.
