Argentia harbour is located on the east side of Placentia Bay. The harbour is entered between Low Room Point and Broad Cove Point and extends 3 kilometres in length southwest to the head of Sandy Cove.
The navigation season is year round.
Available at 1.6 kilometres from the dock.
Pilotage is not compulsory, but if needed, pilots board off Argentia in position 47 degrees 20'00", 54 degrees 06'30"W. ETA to be sent 12 hours prior to arrival to St. John's Pilotage, with confirmation 3 hours prior. pilot messages can be passed through St. John's traffic at (709) 772 - 2083.
Placentia Traffic operates on VHF channels 16 and 12.
Marine Atlantic ferry wharf is situated north of the navy dock and is available, with prior approval from Marine Atlantic, during the off-season(October-May).
There are over 1,500 hectares available, approximately 180 of which are located dockside.
There is a heavy lift crane pad on the wharf built for a 200 tonne mobile crane at minimum radius.
Supplies are available in a limited supply locally or from nearby St. John's.
Diesel oil is available by pipeline at berth #2 or by tanker at other berths.
Fresh water is available at all berths.
Local contractors can provide minor repairs. Major repairs must be undertaken by companies
from nearby St. John's or Marystown.
Although usually not necessary, there are three tugs at nearby Come by Chance.
A cottage hospital is located at Placentia (6.5 kilometres). Four other hospitals are located in
St. John's (130 kilometres).
