Directions to the Bowring Park Amphitheatre from Downtown St. John's

Total travel time driving to the park and walking through it to reach the theatre is 15-20 minutes.

  1. Follow Water Street West until you reach the stoplights at the intersection of Water Street and Lesile Street.
  2. Continue through this intersection, and just afterwards follow the fork to the RIGHT.
  3. Just beyond this the road forks again, so stay to the LEFT (a graveyard should now be on the left side of the road.) You are now on TOPSAIL ROAD.
  4. Continue up Topsail Road until it joins up with Cornwall Avenue. Turn left to this main street, which is the continuation of TOPSAIL ROAD.
  5. Continue along TOPSAIL ROAD for about 5 minutes, until you reach the intersection of Topsail Road and BROOKFIELD ROAD (there is a fire station at this intersection.)
  6. TURN LEFT onto BROOKFIELD ROAD.
  7. TURN LEFT onto WATERFORD BRIDGE ROAD.
  8. PARK in the BOWRING PARK parking lot.

WALK from the parking lot up Park Road to the main gates of Bowring Park, continue straight on in to the fountain pond, and the amphitheatre is just behind the fountain pond in the woods. (About a 5 minute walk from the parking lot.)

*Note: The Bowring Park Amphitheatre has bench seating, with some grass areas. Audiences are welcome to bring their own seating items to enhance their comfort, and a limited number of back-support seat cushions are also available to rent for $3. This site is fully wheelchair accessible; please call (709) 743-SBTS (7287) to arrange for accessible vehicle access closer to the theatre.

It was built to commemorate Sir Humphrey Gilbert's landing at the site in 1583 and his founding of the first overseas colony of the British Empire.
